Update on Ukraine – February 2, 2023

Since March 2022, over 800,000 individuals have applied for temporary residence in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (“CUAET”). To date, over 500,000 of these applications have been approved.

Currently, the CUAET program remains open and available for Ukrainian nationals and their family members to apply for temporary status in Canada. The CUAET program offers valid visitor status and work or study permits for up to three (3) years.

The program also offers exemption from the Government of Canada application processing fees, although this measure is set to expire on March 31, 2023.

The Federal Government has not yet introduced any specific permanent residency options for Ukrainian nationals, however, some provincial programs such as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) will prioritize and waive fees for Ukrainian applicants seeking PR status.
