Express Entry Update: First Draw of the New Year

On January 11, 2023, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a new round of invitations to apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system. Invitations were issued to candidates who qualify for selection under all Express Entry programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, Provincial Nominee Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

This week’s draw invited 5,500 candidates to apply, an increase from 4,750 in the previous draw. The minimum score selected in today’s draw was 507.

The minimum score required for selection increased this week, likely due to the lack of draws in December 2022. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada experienced technical issues with the Express Entry system after implementing the new National Occupation Classification system in late November 2022. Draws were likely paused temporarily in order to deal with these issues, which have for the most part now been resolved. We anticipate that the minimum score required for selection should decrease again should draws resume on a bi-weekly basis going forward.
