Immigration Update
St. Patrick’s Day’s Provincial Nominee Class Draw
On March 17th 2021, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued a new round of invitations to apply for permanent residence under the Express Entry system. Today’s draw invited candidates who qualify for selection under the Provincial Nominee Class. The minimum score selected was 682, and 183 candidates were invited to apply.
To qualify for selection under the Provincial Nominee Class, candidates must have received a nomination certificate from a Canadian province or territory. Candidates who receive a provincial or territorial nomination are awarded 600 additional points under the federal Express Entry system.
Canadian provinces and and territories have their own unique set of immigration programs through which applicants can apply for permanent residence. Criteria for nomination varies by program and by province. Many provincial nomination programs require the applicant to have ties to the province, such as a job offer, previous work experience or post-secondary education. However, some provinces also target international applicants based on provincial labour market needs.
OINP To Re-open Three Immigration Streams
The OINP will reopen their expression of interest system for the Employer job offer, Masters and PhD PNP streams within the next several weeks. The regulations indicate that the following factors will be considered:
• The person’s level and field of education and where they completed their studies.
• The person’s proficiency in English or French.
• Whether the person intends to settle outside of the Greater Toronto Area.
• The person’s skill and work experience level, earnings history, and any other factor relevant to their employment prospects in the Ontario labour and employment market.
• Immediate labour market needs in the province or region of the province.
We recommend that employers and foreign workers consider these streams as an alternative for those not qualifying for the Federal Skilled Worker and Canada Experience Class immigration streams.
