Express Entry Draws Attract Skilled Immigration to Canada

Since the introduction of the Express Entry system in January 2015, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (“IRCC) has been regularly selecting candidates with active express entry profiles and inviting them to apply for Permanent Residence. These draws have been taking place approximately every two weeks since the introduction of the express entry system. In each draw, IRCC issues invitations to apply for Permanent Residence to all candidates in the express entry pool with a Comprehensive Ranking System (“CRS”) score that meets or exceeds the score selected in the draw.

In 2015, the lowest CRS score selected was 450 points. In 2016, the lowest score selected was 453. Since January 2017, we have seen both an increase in the frequency of draws and an increase in the number of candidates invited to apply for Permanent Residence, as well as a consistent lowering of the CRS score cut-off.
