Québec Announces New Intake Period for Family Sponsorship Applications

The Government of Québec has announced that it will reopen intake for capped family sponsorship applications beginning July 2, 2026. The new intake period will allow a maximum of 15,700 undertaking applications over a two-year period, including 13,300 applications for spouses and 2,400 applications for parents and grandparents.

A notable change is that dependent children aged 18 and older will no longer be included within the cap. The cap will continue to exclude certain categories, including dependent children, orphaned minor children, children being adopted, and the addition of dependants to existing applications involving a family member covered by an undertaking.

As with other family sponsorship applications involving Québec, applicants must first obtain a Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ) from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration before the permanent residence application can proceed. Given that applications exceeding the cap will be returned without processing, prospective sponsors should ensure that their applications are carefully prepared and submitted as soon as the intake period opens.
