New Temporary Policy: Extension of Post-Graduate Work Permits

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced today a new temporary policy for extension of post-graduate work permits. The policy will take effect in the summer of 2022. Post-graduate work permit holders with permits set to expire between January and December 2022 will be eligible to apply for a new open work permit, for a duration of up to 18 months.

Post-graduate work permit holders have been significantly impacted by the pause on Express Entry draws. This new policy will allow post-graduate work permit holders to remain in Canada and continue to work while they await selection under the Express Entry program. Further details regarding this new policy are to be released in the coming weeks.
