Ontario Sets 2026 Nomination Allocation: More Opportunities for Skilled Workers

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has announced its 2026 nomination allocation, receiving 14,119 spots for the year. This marks a 31% increase from 2025’s 10,750 nominations, though it remains below the 2024 peak of 21,500. The increase reflects Canada’s broader rise in permanent residence targets and offers Ontario more flexibility to meet its labor market needs.

As federal Express Entry draws become more restrictive, the OINP continues to play a critical role for skilled workers and employers. Early 2026 draws have focused on priority sectors, including healthcare, physicians, early childhood educators, and the Regional Economic Development (REDI) pilot. For Ontario employers, provincial nominations are increasingly important for retaining essential talent long-term.

The program has also undergone several updates in recent years, including expanded eligibility for self-employed physicians, streamlined employer-led applications, and adjusted education requirements for early childhood educators. Ontario is also planning a major stream consolidation, simplifying its Employer Job Offer streams and focusing future pathways on healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and exceptional talent.

With competition remaining high, early planning and careful stream selection are essential for candidates and employers seeking provincial nominations.
