Greater Transparency for Refused Temporary Residence Applicants
As of July 29, 2025, applicants whose applications to work, study, or visit Canada are denied can now expect more transparency in the refusal process. In a move to improve clarity, detailed officer decision notes are now being included with refusal letters for certain temporary resident applications.
These notes will initially be provided only for temporary resident visas, visitor records, study permits, and work permits, with a view to expand the provision of officer decision notes to more application types in the future.
The officer decision notes are automatically attached to the refusal letter and sent directly to the applicant or their authorized representative. Applicants do not need to make a separate request to obtain these notes, though certain portions may be withheld for security, privacy, or legal reasons.
This initiative is designed to give applicants a clearer understanding of the reasons behind a refusal, helping them address issues and improve future applications.
