Canada Extends Temporary Immigration Measures to Support Palestinians Amid Gaza Crisis

In response to the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Canadian government has announced the extension of Canada’s special measures for Palestinians who are presently in Canada and unable to return home.

First introduced in December 2023, these special measures allow eligible Palestinians and foreign-national family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, who departed Gaza on or after October 7, 2023, to apply for fee-exempt study permits, open work permits, temporary resident permits, or extensions of their temporary resident status. These measures, originally scheduled to expire this year, have now been extended through July 31, 2026.

This extension reflects Canada’s broader humanitarian approach and commitment to being a leader in assisting those displaced by conflict worldwide. By ensuring continued access to temporary status, support services, and protection measures, Canada reaffirms its role in providing assistance while continuing to monitor evolving regional circumstances.
