Canada Eliminates Field of Study Restrictions for Graduates of College Bachelor’s Programs
Canada has recently updated its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility criteria, eliminating field of study restrictions for graduates of college bachelor’s programs. Previously, these graduates were only eligible for a PGWP if their program of study was linked to labor market shortages. This change brings their eligibility in line with that of university bachelor’s graduates, who were already exempt from such restrictions.
However, graduates of other college, polytechnic, or non-university programs, as well as those from university programs outside the bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral levels, must still meet existing field of study requirements.
It is important to note that all PGWP candidates applying after November 1, 2024, will continue to be required to meet new language proficiency standards announced last year.
