Express Entry: CRS Points for Arranged Employment Eliminated
Effective March 25, 2025, Express Entry candidates will no longer receive additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for arranged employment. Previously, candidates with a valid job offer—including those supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)—could receive either 50 or 200 CRS points, significantly improving their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
This policy change was initially announced as a temporary measure on December 18, 2024, as part of the Canadian government’s broader efforts to “strengthen the integrity of Canada’s immigration system” by curbing fraudulent job offers used to boost CRS scores. However, no timeline has been provided for when or if this measure will end.
Candidates with valid job offers will see a decrease in their CRS scores, though the government has indicated that it may take a few days to update profiles. Importantly, this change does not affect those who have already received an ITA or have a permanent residence application in progress.
With this shift, overall draw scores may decline, creating opportunities for applicants with strong human capital factors such as high language proficiency, Canadian education, and work experience to secure ITAs.
