Canada Extends Special Immigration Measures for Haitian Nationals
In response to the ongoing crisis in Haiti, the Canadian government has extended special measures to support Haitian nationals in Canada, as well as foreign national family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are currently in Canada and unable to return to Haiti. Initially implemented on May 23, 2024, these measures will now remain in effect until November 19, 2025.
Under these provisions, eligible individuals can extend or modify the conditions of their temporary stay without incurring certain processing fees. This includes applications for eligible study permits and work permits. Furthermore, recognizing the challenges in obtaining new passports due to the situation in Haiti, these measures waive the requirement for a passport or travel document for permanent residence applicants seeking a visa to travel to Canada.
While all standard eligibility and admissibility criteria remain in place, these special measures are designed to provide crucial relief and opportunities for those impacted by the crisis in Haiti.
