Evolving Temporary Resident Measures for Ukrainian Citizens
The Canadian government has recently announced updates and extensions to the Canada–Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program, aimed at facilitating the integration and well-being of Ukrainian nationals and their families.
The current program availability depends on when the CUAET application was approved, and the date that the individual entered Canada.
Applications Approved on or after February 4, 2024
- These individuals continue to be eligible to travel to Canada under the CUAET measures.
- Regardless of whether the individual has entered Canada yet, these individuals are eligible to apply for fee-exempt work and study permits until December 31, 2024.
- Individuals who arrived in Canada prior to March 31st, 2024, will continue to be eligible to apply for CUAET work or study permits until March 31st, 2025, but may be subject to government processing fees after December 31, 2024.
Applications Approved prior to February 4, 2024
- If the applicant arrived in Canada on or prior to March 31st, 2024, the applicant is eligible to apply for additional work or study permits under CUAET but will need to pay government processing fees.
- If the applicant arrived in Canada after March 31st, 2024, or has not yet travelled to Canada, the applicant’s current documents remain valid, but no CUAET measures are available.
Additionally, all Ukrainian temporary residents and family members in Canada are eligible for settlement services until March 31, 2025.
