Express Entry Draws Resume with first Canadian Experience Class Targeted Draw since 2021

This week, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued two new rounds of invitations to apply to Express Entry.

On May 30, 2024, IRCC issued a round of invitations to candidates who qualify for selection under the Provincial Nominee Class. The minimum score selected was 676, and 2,985 candidates were invited to apply. To qualify for selection under the Provincial Nominee Class, candidates must have received a nomination certificate from a Canadian province or territory.

On May 31, 2024, IRCC issued a round of invitations to candidates to qualify for selection under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). This is the first round of invitations limited specifically to CEC candidates since August 19, 2021. The minimum score selected was 522 points, and 3,000 candidates were invited to apply.

Since the introduction of category-based selection in 2023, we have seen the minimum scores required for selection in all-program draws increase. The resumption of draws specific to Canadian Experience Class candidates is a positive development for applicants in Canada who have been struggling to be selected under the all-program draws. Should these draws continue, we anticipate that applicants in Canada who meet the CEC criteria will have a higher likelihood of selection going forward.
