Expansion of Canada’s International Experience Canada Program in 2024

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is expanding the International Experience Canada (IEC) program to include Finnish youth. The Canada-Finland Youth Mobility Agreement between Canada and Finland under the IEC program facilitates the opportunity for 18 to 35-year-olds to work and explore each other’s countries for up to 12 months in three designated categories: Working Holiday, International Co-op (internship), and Young Professionals. The agreement is expected to come into force in the coming year, once it has been ratified by both countries.

Canada has also entered into a new Youth Mobility Agreement with Iceland to facilitate the entry of Icelandic youth to Canada for work and travel. Under this agreement, which recently came into force in 2024, Icelandic youth aged 18 to 30 are eligible to work in Canada for up to 12 months and may be eligible for a repeat participation.

In addition, Canada has expanded its existing Youth Mobility Agreements with the UK and South Korea. The eligibility age has increased to include 18 to 35 year olds, and includes two new streams: International Co-op (internship) and Young Professionals. The maximum duration of stay in Canada has also increased.
