Student Direct Stream
Certain study permit applicants are eligible to apply under the Student Direct Stream, an expedited study permit application process for students from designated countries. The advantage of the Student Direct Stream is a processing time of approximately twenty (20) days, versus the current study permit processing times of approximately six (6) weeks.
In order to qualify, students must be a legal resident of one of the designated countries, have an acceptance to a Canadian institution, pay the first year of tuition, include language test results, provide the most recent educational transcripts, and obtain a Guaranteed Investment Certificate of CAN$10,000.00. Students must also meet all other eligibility criteria for a study permit.
Citizens of one of the designated countries, who do not currently reside in a listed country, are not eligible to apply under this program.
Applicants must also provide language test results, showing either an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in each skill, or a TEF score equal to a CLB score of 7 or higher in each skill. Starting in August 2023, language test results will also be accepted from CELPIP, TCF, CAEL, PTE, or TOEFL.
