Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Announces Category-Based Selection for Express Entry: Focus on Healthcare, Tech, Trade, Transport and Agriculture Sectors, and French Proficiency
On May 31, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced the launch of category-based selection for Express Entry candidates. Going forward in the 2023 year, IRCC will prioritize inviting candidates who have experience in several in-demand occupations, as well as candidates who are bilingual.
The categories for selection in the 2023 year will be as follows:
- French language proficiency;
- Healthcare occupations;
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations;
- Trade Occupations;
- Transport Occupations; and
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
Altogether, over 80 different occupations in these sectors have been chosen as priority occupations for the 2023 year. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with work experience in these occupations to apply for permanent residence. Candidates with work experience in these sectors, or candidates who are fluent in French should consider creating an Express Entry profile for the 2023 year even if their overall CRS score is lower than the minimums selected in recent all-program draws.
